Company welcomes PUCT and ERCOT audit, highlighting its approach to responsible power development, water use and community impacts
HOUSTON — August 17, 2026 — Hanwha Data Centers supports Governor Greg Abbott’s call for responsible, transparent data center development in Texas and the comprehensive review of projects advancing through the ERCOT interconnection process.
Over the past decade, Hanwha has built a substantial energy presence in Texas, developing and advancing more than a dozen complex energy projects totaling approximately 2.8 GW capacity, operating the 324 MW Ector County Generation facility that contributes to ERCOT grid stability, and actively participating in Texas competitive energy markets, including through its retail brands, Chariot Energy and Pumpjack Power. Hanwha is proud to invest in Texas by developing projects that deliver concrete benefits for Texans, including growing the state’s innovation economy, creating energy and construction jobs, and bringing new dispatchable power generation online.
Governor Abbott’s direction is consistent with the way Hanwha approaches large-load development today: responsibly pairing new demand with the power and infrastructure needed to serve it. Hanwha’s capabilities support a phased approach to power delivery and infrastructure development, including bridge power for near-term needs, scalable permanent generation and energy storage, interconnection infrastructure and, where appropriate, load-management measures designed to support ERCOT reliability as projects grow.
Hanwha welcomes the opportunity to work with the Public Utility Commission of Texas, Electric Reliability Council of Texas, and other state officials and to provide the information needed to demonstrate that its projects meet or exceed applicable Texas requirements.
As Hanwha develops powered land and energy infrastructure for data centers in Texas, its approach is guided by four principles:
- Transparency and accountability. We support appropriate government oversight and will proactively cooperate with PUCT, ERCOT and other state officials throughout the review process.
- Responsible power and infrastructure development. Hanwha’s Texas strategy includes development of new dispatchable generation alongside data center growth, while supporting efforts by PUCT and ERCOT to ensure projects bear their fair share of associated infrastructure costs.
- Responsible water use. We plan around local resource conditions, seek to minimize water consumption and expect our projects to bear their associated water costs.
- Strong community partnerships. We engage with host communities and work to address site-specific impacts such as traffic, sound and emergency response while creating jobs and supporting local priorities.
Texas can continue to lead in digital infrastructure while protecting grid reliability, natural resources and the quality of life of its communities. Hanwha Data Centers looks forward to working with state, grid and local partners to advance responsible growth on that basis.
